Baseball Is Back!

In honor of the start of the 2010 MLB season I’m counting down my favorite baseball “Rejected Memories” that we’ve done.

#10

Rejected Yankee Stadium Memories – Billy Crystal

REGRET – This is the first in the ‘Rejected Yankee Stadium Memories’ of the countdown so I should state that the primary regret on all of these is that we did not properly mic them. So that echo you hear is due to a reliance on the on-board Canon GL1 microphone, which is worthless. Soon after this shoot we spent money on an actual boom mic.

LITTLE KNOWN FACT #1 – the bat Lou is holding is the size of a Little League bat and it has a fake, engraved signature of George Brett on the barrel.

LITTLE KNOWN FACT #2 – Lou carries a bat with him everywhere he goes. Usually, it has nails sticking out of it. And a fake, engraved drawing of George Brett on the barrel.

MISTAKE – In the video, the tragic character of Phil Siciliano says, “It’s the bottom of the 4th, Witt’s pitching, Kirby Puckett hits a single to left field…” – If they’re playing in Yankee Stadium (and it is, after all, Yankee Stadium memories…) then the Yankees would be the home team and they would be batting in the bottom half of the inning, not the Twins. I’m very dissappointed in myself for letting this slip by. To be fair, just before we started rolling the cameras Lou said, ‘If I charge at you with the bat just pretend that you’re Billy Crystal and go with it’ – so I was a little distracted.
